CHIEF PLANNER OF THE CITY OF BOSTON

The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) and the City of Boston are engaged in a national search and public process to hire a Chief Planner to oversee and coordinate all planning activities within City government. Residing within the BRA, Boston's planning and economic development agency, the Chief Planner will answer to the Director of the BRA and the Mayor of Boston.

The City of Boston is experiencing an intense boom in development encouraged by billions of dollars in both public and private investment. The downtown is thriving and the neighborhoods are undergoing vital transformations. Major land use issues in the City include the development of the South Boston Waterfront, the Massachusetts Turnpike Air Rights, and the Central Artery parcels, as well as continued neighborhood and harbor planning efforts. The Chief Planner will oversee the restructuring of many of the City's planning functions into the BRA and the coordination of planning efforts between BRA and City staff. Planning responsibilities will include land use, transportation, public facilities, human services, and other relevant planning areas as well as urban design considerations.

Requirements include a BA and MA in urban planning or a related field, 15+ years experience working in urban planning and design in a big city environment, and experience working in municipal government. Salary will be in the 90Ks.

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is an equal opportunity employer. Staff are required to live within the City of Boston.
