On March 11, 1998, the Boston City Council approved the financing and construction of a new $700 Million Convention Center in the Seaport District.

The SAND View:

The Convention Center will set the pace for hotel, retail and office development in the entire waterfront area. We expect the BRA to be more attentive to residential development and public space needs in its forthcoming Seaport District Master Plan to ensure that conventioneers will always find a walkable Boston neighborhood outside the new facility.
