Newton-based mall developer Stephen Karp has purchased the 10-acre site of Anthony's Pier 4 restaurant and adjacent lot from property owner Anthony Athanas. Karp has not disclosed his plans publicly, but Boston Globe sources have indicated that a commercial complex is planned, and will likely require relocation of the landmark restaurant.
John Drew, developer of the Seaport Hotel (200' tower on Massport property at the foot of Fish Pier), stated to the Globe, "The concept of a mixed-use plan that creates housing along with a hotel and office seems to fit very nicely into the plan for the whole area."
