The South Boston Harbor Academy, a charter school seeking to relocate on the South Boston waterfront, opened its doors this past September on Elkins St. (near the Boston Edison plant). The school runs classes for 120 students in grades 5-7 and will add 8th grade next year and 9th grade in the year 2000.

SBHA teachers and administrators are developing its curriculum, slated to include harbor studies and maritime-related topics.
